Workstation Hardening

Securing the workstation can be achieved with a minimum of effort. Embrionic specialises in automated desktop/workstation deployment and as part of this process can provide client lockdown guidance to meet your specific workstation / laptop roles and application requirements.

For example, preventing users from saving files locally, installing software and removing unwanted icons or building an admin configurable only kiosk for use in the corporate public spaces.

Securing the Desktop Practices

We are perfectly placed to help address all your workstation issues. As a minimum we recommend the following practices when deploying and securing your workstations:

  • Introduce, if you have not done so already, an Acceptable Use Policy for all your users that outlines the allowed activities and uses of workstations and other information resources

  • Workstations should only contain and operate authorised software under the Authorised Software Policy

  • When a workstation is connected to any portion of the corporate network, it should become subject to your network security policy

  • All workstations should have anti-virus software installed and regularly updated, preferably with automatic updating enabled

  • Workstations should have lockout procedures in place which are automatically initiated after a period of inactivity and require the user to authenticate before workstation access is permitted

Embrionic will provide advice and guidance on such deployments and how Active Directory and Group Policy can compliment such deployments.
