Application Virtualisation from Embrionic
In a traditional deployment of applications, the applications a user requires are installed on their desktop or
laptop either through a manual or automated process. This results in users being tied to their machines or applications being installed on workstations and not used. Each application requires significant effort to compatibility test,
package and deploy to users, which increases the cost of application deployment.
Management of deployed applications becomes difficult and increases risk, with removal of applications resulting in files being left behind on the desktop operating system. Desktop operating systems become dirty and troubleshooting problems
prove difficult. Effective application usage reporting is near impossible resulting in higher licensing costs.
Operating System and Application Separation
Application Virtualisation provides the separation of applications and desktop operating systems. As each application runs in its own virtual environment any dependency conflicts between applications are removed and the time spent on compatibility testing is significantly reduced.
Through the use of Microsoft SotfGrid each application is virtualised and streamed to the desktop on demand. The application is not installed on the desktop, but cached and run locally. This is an important feature because it means there is little or no change in application performance for the end user.
Server Based Computing Environments
Application Virtualisation can also be used to simplify and standardise an organisations server based computing environment,
also removing the need for specialist farms of Windows Terminal Servers or Citrix Servers for certain applications.
SoftGrid can remove the time consuming regression testing and conflict
management associated with a Citrix or Terminal services build.
